Pastor D.

Lead Pastor

The Reverend Devin B. Jeffers, affectionately known as Pastor D., is a life coach, ordained minister, motivational speaker, and spiritual advisor. He has served in ministry for over 25 years in the capacities of Praise and Worship Leader, Youth and Young Adult Pastor, Executive Pastor, Pastoral Assistant, and Interim Pastor.

At a special congregational meeting on Sunday, September 15, 2019, the First Reformed United Church of Christ (FRC) in Lancaster, Pennsylvania made history by 91% voting to elect Devin as their new Pastor –one of the youngest, and the first person of color to ever serve in this capacity in the 285-year history of this pioneering congregation.

In the short time that Pastor D. has been at FRC, he started the “Church Adopt a Class Initiative.” Because of his vision to invest in the community, he has adopted Fulton Elementary School to share hope in negative experiences and provide any assistance the students, their families, or teachers may need. A Harvest Festival, holiday baskets, toy giveaways, classroom visits, a Teachers’ Wish List, and local stylist willing to provide free cuts and styles for students are just a few of the projects completed. Pastor D. is also a seminarian at the Lancaster Theological Seminary working on a Masters of Arts in Ministry and Leadership.

He is the founder and president of DBJ Enterprises with a mandate to “Empower and Encourage”. Under DBJ Enterprises, there is a mentoring program, virtual assistant company, and the WORD catalog housing sermons and teachings by Pastor D. He is a proud member of the Downtown Lancaster Ministerium, the IntraCity Progressive Pastors’ Association, the NAACP, Lancaster Young Professionals, Power Interfaith Lancaster County, and the Fulton Theatre Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Access Committee. His bold, energetic, humorous, unique style is capable of impacting individuals from all walks of life. An anointed preacher and teacher, and soon to be author he draws on his own failures and shortcomings to deliver God’s message of love.

Pastor D. embraces technology and other avenues to illustrate teachings with real-life application. He has traveled both nationally and internationally showing, sharing, and speaking God’s message of love and power to ALL people. Pastor Dana

Minister to the Homebound and Elderly

Rev. Dana Schlegel is a native of Berks County and graduated from Albright College and Lancaster Theological Seminary. He has served several pastorates in PA Southeast and Penn Central Conferences and taught on the faculty of Lancaster Seminary where he also directed the Arts In Ministry Program. Dana also served on the staff of Penn Central Conference as the Conference Coordinator of Program Ministries and most recently was a Chaplain for Hospice of Lancaster County for 15 years.

Dana joined the staff at First Reformed in February 2014 as Minister to the Home Bound and Elderly. This staff position is funded by the Diffenbach Trust. His responsibility is to provide pastoral care for home bound members of First Reformed and to assess educational needs in the congregation related to aging, such as spiritual issues, personal care needs, housing needs, health care issues, legal issues.

Larry Hershey

Organist and Choirmaster

Mr. Larry Hershey, Organist/Choirmaster, has been Organist and Choirmaster at First Reformed Church since 1989. His position is part-time, and he directs The Choir of sixteen members. He is a 1988 music honors graduate from Millersville University. Larry is also an active local piano and organ recitalist and has performed often with The Lancaster Summer Arts Concert Series and The Lancaster Chapter of The American Guild of Organists.

Janet Lefever

Church Administrative Assistant

Mrs. Janet Lefever is our Church Administrative Assistant. Helping to serve the church and the community, Janet’s service in indispensable as an integral part of the FRC team. Whenever you visit FRC, you can always expect a big smile and incredible hospitality from her.

Bob Rettig

Sexton

Bob started working at FRC in 2005. After fifteen years of sexton, he took a four-year break to follow his love for woodworking. Then, after a layoff at his job, Bob was offered the position again. For someone who knows the church property better than just about anyone, Bob is happy to be back taking care of the church and rekindling all of his previous friendships in downtown Lancaster. Welcome back, Bob!
