“Gothic Echoes”
Organist Larry Hershey will perform the program “Gothic Echoes” at First Reformed Church of Lancaster on First Friday, October 2 at 8 PM. The free 30 minute concert will include Bach’s world-famous “Toccata in D Minor”, Charles Gounod’s “Funeral March for a Marionette” (which became familiar as the musical theme for Alfred Hitchcock’s TV mystery series) and “Come, Holy Spirit” by Maurice Durufle. The program will conclude with Leon Boellmann’s “Toccata” from Suite Gothique. Mr. Hershey will be playing The Hill Byrne/Christiansen Memorial Organ in First Reformed’s historic 1854 sanctuary at 40 E. Orange Street in downtown Lancaster.
Every First Friday, First Reformed Church opens the doors to its historic 1854 domed sanctuary to the public for a concert on the Hill Byrne/Christiansen Memorial Organ. The First Friday “Organic Reflections” concert series is a gift to the community from First Reformed Church, a center city congregation of the United Church of Christ. Only 30 minutes in length, the free concerts begin at 8 PM each First Friday for the convenience of those who wish to spend the early evening visiting downtown galleries before the concert. Doors open at 7:30 pm. All are welcome to hear 30 minutes of majestic music that will refresh your soul and inspire your spirit.
