Rev. William P. Worley, Pastor

Pastor Bill, now in his twelfth year at First Reformed, is a local boy; a graduate of McCaskey High School, Gettysburg College (History/Political Science) and Lancaster Theological Seminary. He was ordained in 1994 while engaged in ministry as Associate Pastor of Union Congregational Church in Montclair, New Jersey. Pastor Bill is married to the beautiful Mara Sultan-Worley, the proud Director of Sales at the swanky Lancaster Arts Hotel. Together they parent their above-average-sons Zach (18) and Justin (16). Pastor Bill is a commissioned officer in the United States Navy Reserve assigned to the Marine Corps. His hobbies include weightlifting, hunting, camping, skiing and gardening.

Rev. Robert D. Sherfy, Assoc. Pastor/Homebound Elderly Ministries

Bob grew up and was ordained in the Church of the Brethren after earning his Divinity degree at Bethany Theological Seminary, Chicago. Bob has also earned a Masters of Social Work degree at the University of Maryland. He has served a number of pastorates in Virginia and Pennsylvania and has worked as a medical social worker. He transferred his ministerial standing to the United Church of Christ in 1994. In 2005 he retired from full time ministry.

Bob joined the staff at First Reformed in January 2007 as Associate Pastor for Elderly and Home Bound. This staff position is funded by the Diffenbach Trust. His responsibility is to provide pastoral care for home bound members of First Reformed and to assess educational needs in the congregation related to aging, such as spiritual issues, personal care needs, housing needs, health care issues, legal issues.

Mr. Larry Hershey, Organist/Choirmaster

Larry has been Organist and Choirmaster at First Reformed Church since 1989. His position is part-time, and he directs The Choir of sixteen members. He is a 1988 music honors graduate from Millersville University. Larry is also an active local piano and organ recitalist and has performed often with The Lancaster Summer Arts Concert Series and The Lancaster Chapter of The American Guild of Organists.

Mr. Hershey also has a dual career with music and the restaurant industry. He was the Restaurant Manager and Innkeeper of the Cameron Estates Inn, Mount Joy, for more than five years. Currently, he is General Manager of The Pressroom Restaurant in downtown Lancaster, having worked for more than nine years for The Steinman Enterprises.

Ms. Lynn Duncan

Lynn is a Lancaster native, former small business owner and worked most recently as Campaign Administrator at Kirby-Smith Associates in Quarryville, PA. She brings both a high level of energy and experience to the position.  She is widowed and lives in Lancaster with her daughter and grandsons. She would love to have you drop by the office to meet her any time.

Mr. Bob Retting, Sexton

Bob is a life-time Lancaster native, a former long-time employee of Lancaster Malleable Casting Company and the father of two grown sons. Bob came to work at First Reformed Church in May 2005 and brought with him a love for wood working. While his first job priority is property, Bob is a people person. He conveniently lives here on the church campus and may be one of the first people to greet you. On Bob’s day off, he is in the woods hunting or in a stream fishing.

Ms. Elizabeth Schneider, Child Care

Liz is the daughter of Amy Schultz and Bob Sherfy. She is a 2005 Pastry Arts graduate from York Technical Institute. Liz is currently trying her hand working as an artist. An animal lover, Liz also works as a pet sitter. She has volunteered in many church nurseries over the years, and this summer (2009) was one of the co-leaders for the Grandview United Methodist camp program.
